I maintain that Hedwig kills Hermione, regardless of not reading it and being told Hedwig dies (which I refuse to believe because that would contradict my spoiler) to avada kadavra.

I'm reading the book. Yeah, Hedwig is put under the Imperius Curse and he pecks Hermione to death. It's quite gory, actually.
